In the wake of recent disturbances at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, bankroller of Nations FC, Dr Kwame Kyei has made a resounding call for unity and tranquility.
The chaos erupted during a Ghana Premier League match when irate Asante Kotoko fans, discontent with officiating, resorted to vandalism, causing damage to stadium seats. They were literally not pleased with a penalty awarded to the hosts in the latter stages of the game.
Dr Kyei, a former Asante Kotoko Board Chairman, responded to this incident with a message of unity and reconciliation.
Dr Kyei’s commitment to maintaining peace and harmony in the sporting community was evident as he pledged, “We will replace the damaged chairs at the stadium because the stadium is also for Asante Kotoko and Asanteman.”
This vow to restore the stadium’s facilities stands as a powerful symbol of his dedication to the broader community’s welfare.
The incident, in which seats were destroyed to express displeasure with officiating, was one of four separate cases of hooliganism that marred the weekend’s sporting events in Ghana.
“What happened was unfortunate and we must condemn it because we need Asanteman and Ghana to develop.
“Let us hope that what we saw yesterday will not happen again because we don’t want to experience another May 9 in Ghana football again,” he added.
The match ended on a dramatic note as Nations FC scored their penalty kick to tie the game 2-2.
