– Coach Chris Hughton, Head Coach of the Black Stars has said the concentration of the technical team is on the two World Cup qualifying fixtures against Madagascar and Comoros despite the 2023 AFCON in January next year.
He said his immediate task was to get good results in the two matches to place Ghana in a good position in the group before heading to Cote d’Ivoire for the continental championship.
“I know we have the AFCON tournament in January but at this moment all our concentration is on these two very important fixtures,” he told the media at a pre-match conference ahead of the Ghana-Madagascar World Cup qualifier.
He said he knew what the AFCON meant for Ghanaians and was conscious of the fact the team needed good preparation to participate in the tournament, but the focus now was to start the World Cup qualifiers on a good note.
“We want to qualify from this group in the best way by scoring more goals and conceding none,” he noted.
Responding to why Inaki Williams is finding it difficult to find the back of the net since switching nationality to play for Ghana, Coach Hughton admitted that the technical team had a responsibility to find the right formula to provide him the services he needed in front of goal.
He said there was no doubt Inaki was a good striker judging from how he had been scoring at club level and gave assurance that the technical team was working around the clock to fix the problem.
The best way to handle the pressure on the team is to win matches with good performances, he observed.
