The 3 Lions anticipating easy win over Iceland

Must Read

England will square off with Iceland in a UEFA Nations League match in London on November 18.

The Three Lions succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to Belgium away in their previous match which was a Nations League clash on 15 November 2020.

England have now lost two of their last three matches across all competitions, while the other game ended in a victory.

The last time the Three Lions tasted a win was against the Republic of Ireland – the international friendly match ended in a 3-0 victory for England on 12 November 2020.

Gareth Southgate, the England head coach, has confirmed that they will be without Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling when they face Iceland.

“Jordan had a bit of tightness at half-time and felt he couldn’t carry on [against Belgium],” Southgate said.

“Probably medically I would have to leave that [a diagnosis] for now but, yeah, we will just have to assess him when we get back.

“Raheem missed training on Friday, a small problem with the calf. He trained yesterday, wasn’t happy with it and so he won’t be ready for Wednesday, but I imagine he will be ready by the weekend.”

Meanwhile, Iceland suffered a 2-1 defeat to Denmark in their previous game which was a Nations League clash on 15 November 2020.

The loss extended Strakarnir Okkar’s winless run to four matches across all competitions having registered four successive defeats.

Iceland’s last victory came against Romania, who succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Strakarnir Okkar on 8 October 2020.

The last match between England and Iceland was on 5 September 2020.

The Three Lions secured a 1-0 win over Strakarnir Okkar in a Nations League match which was played at the Laugardalsvöllur.
