Roche Product Ghana Limited in collaboration with World Child Cancer on Thursday provided Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) with oncology facility.
The GH 600,000 facility is to enhance quality health care for cancer patients in the area.
The Roche Products Ghana Limited and the partner also provided necessary ancillary facilities for doctors in the hospital to offer quality treatment to cancer patients.
Dr Mokowa Blay-Adu, a Presidential Advisor, inaugurated the oncology facility on behalf of the First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo.
The First Lady stated that the government was partnering with various organisations to ensure that problems relating to the health care, particularly women and children were adequately addressed.
She noted that cancer had led many people to poverty and the government had also taken measures to address it.
Mrs Akufo-Addo commended the Roche Product Ghana Limited and its partnering organisations for the facility.
She, therefore, encouraged the management of the hospital to make sure the facility was in good shape at all times.
The Project Manager of World Child Cancer Ghana, Mr Anne Marie Affanie Godwin, indicated that the organisation was committed to helping bring treatment to the doorsteps of every child across the globe.
According to her, patients with cancer would continue to receive support from the organisation because it had the mission to improve diagnosis, treatment, and support for children and their families in the development world.
Ms Anne Marie also assured the management of TTH that the organisation would continue to provide them to offer improved treatment to patients with cancer.
The Board Chairman of the Hospital, Dr Mahmoud H. Nasirdeen, on his part said the hospital had for some time made huge strides to enhance the provision of oncology services.
He, however, added that “for the hospital to be able to fully manage all cancers, there would be the need for radiotherapy in addition to the chemotherapy currently provided.”
Dr Nasirdeen thanked the organisation and its partner for gesture and pledged that the authorities would use the facility to ensure quality cancer treatment for patients.
Some selected staff of hospital had under gone training on how to use the facilities.
