Stop manipulating endorsement of MMDCE nominees-MP

Must Read

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast South Constituency in the Central Region,Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, has called on the authorities to stop manipulating the endorsement of the president’s nominee, Ernest Arthur as the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Cape Coast.

He noted with concern the open intimidation and threats by some people against Assembly members they perceived to be against the processes, when it should be a free, fair, credible and transparent voting.

Mr Arthur was nominated by the president but has been rejected twice by the Assembly.

Mr Ricketts-Hagan insisted that assembly members should vote freely and fairly without intimidation and threat to avoid violence in the Cape Coast Metropolis and cautioned that there had been an uneasy and tensed atmosphere in the metropolis which was escalating.

“There is uneasy calm and tensed atmosphere in the Cape Coast metropolis due to intimidation and threats which can erupt into violence if measures are not taken to ensure the will of the people prevailed.

“Dr Kwamena Mintah Nyarko, MP for Cape Coast North, and I have been receiving complaints and concerns from some assembly members and constituents on the pending confirmation processes in the metropolis of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s nominees which can affect good governance at the local level.

“Personalities interfering in the processes of confirmation should desist from the act because any blood shed during the processes will be on the hands of the authorities but not the president’s nominee since Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives confirmation is about local governance and not politics.

“All personalities interfering to desist from such acts and allow the assembly members to vote and decide on whom they want as the Municipal Chief Executive and not to impose any candidate on them and the Regional Police Command must be on the alert to quell any action of intimidation, threats and brutalities during the third round of election which is yet to be announced,” Mr Ricketts-Hagan revealed.

He appealed to Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, the Omanhen of Oguaa Traditional Area, to intervene and ensure the election was conducted peacefully and called on the residents of Cape Coast to rise up and fight for their rights and maintain the peace, unity, harmony, cohesion and stability in the area. -GNA
