The Shalom Indigenous Foundation (SIF), a charitable wing of the Bible Baptist Church atMadinawith support from its partners in the USA, has presented assorted items to the Dzorwulu Special School in Accra.

The items valued at GH¢7,400  comprised five boxes of teaching and learning aids, a box of hand sanitisers, three boxes of personal care kits, a bag of rice and 15 pounds sized bag of Cassava Flicks (Gari).

The rest are two boxes of spicy peanuts, assorted clothing, copies of Bibles and other literature materials.

The President of SIF, Reverend Dr Noah Tetteh Quarshie, said the gesture was in response to the current economic recession the country was bedevilled with.

According to him, it was important people became more responsive to the needs of others, most especially the less privileged in the wake of challenging times, to alleviate their hardships.

He said the government alone could not singlehandedly meet the increasing logistical needs of the Dzorwulu Special School and there was a need for external support.

Rev Dr Qurshie, expressed concern about what he described as bottlenecks associated with securing complete import duty exemptions due SIF, adding that “it is a major bane bringing into the country adequate supports due to the high cost of import duties.”

It is in this respect that he appealed to the government and its relevant agencies to make import duty exemptions more accessible in order to lessenthe operational cost of SIF and other benevolent organisations in the country.

A Senior House Master of the Dzorwulu Special School, Mr Roland Odiade, who received the items on behalf of management of the school, thanked SIF for the gesture and gave the assurance that the items would be used judiciously.

He described the presentation as timely, especially with the teaching and learning aids since they were major constraints to effective teaching and learning.
