President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has sworn into office, career diplomat, Genevieve Edna Apaloo, as Ghana’s new Ambassador to Japan.

The President urged the new envoy to take advantage of Ghana’s cordial relations with the Asian country and woe more investors into the country.

At a short inaugural ceremony at the Jubilee House in Accra on Wednesday, President Akufo-Addo described Japan as a faithful and dependable ally and urged Mrs Apaloo to protect the relationship.

President Akufo-Addo expressed satisfaction in his choice of Mrs Apaloo, and confidence in her ability to perform the new role.

The President urged his envoy to take advantage of Ghana’s relationship with the Emperor of Japan, who visited Ghana recently when he was Crown Prince, to “promote goodwill in our relations with Japan.”

Mrs Apaloo, on her part, expressed gratitude to the President and pledged to work hard to justify the confidence reposed in her.

“I thank you for the confidence you have placed in me as the first woman to go to Japan as Ghana’s Ambassador. I am humbled by this appointment and I want to assure you that by the grace of God, I will put all my strength into this work and bring as much benefit to Ghana as I can,” she said.
