President innuagrates governing council of Police, Armed Forces

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo yesterday inaugurated the Governing Councils of the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service to provide leadership to the two security agencies. 

Both councils, Chaired by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, are Constitutional bodies with their membership and duties clearly defined by the Constitution. 

Members on the Police Governing Council are Ambrose Dery, Minister for the Interior, Dr. George AkuffoDampare, IGP, Godfred Yeboah Dame, Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Mr. Bram-LarbiKwaku, Ghana Bar Association, and COP Joseph BoakyeAppiah, Retired Senior Officers Association

The rest are ACP FaustinaAgyeiwaa K. Andoh-Kwofie, Ghana Police Service (Senior Rank), INSPR Felix Essuman, Ghana Police Service (Junior Rank), Mr. Hadih A. Bin Salih, President’s nominee and Madam Cecilia Eguakun, President’s nominee.

On the Governing Council of the Ghana Armed Forces are Minister of Defence, Dominic B.A. Nitiwul, Minister of the Interior, Ambrose Dery, Minister of Foreign Affairs & Regional Integration, Shirley AyorkorBotchweey,  and Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, Chief of Defence Staff, 

The rest are AVM Frank Hanson, Chief of the Air Staff, Maj. Gen. T. Oppong – Preprah Chief of Army Staff, R/AdmIssah Adam Yakubu, Chief of Naval Staff, Brig. Gen R.O. Sackey (Rtd), President’s Nominee, Col. C.B. Ankomah-Danso (Rtd) President’s Nominee and Master Warrant 0fficer Daniel Addo, Senior Warrant Officer.

President Akufo-Addo, in separate ceremonies, urged the two councils to provide leadership to ensure professionalism and high standards in the Armed Forces and the Police Service. 

To the Armed Forces, he said the government would actively support contemporary training methods that would keep the army abreast with international military trends and become the beacon of military across the continent. 

“As we have done since 2017, we are committed to providing the Armed Forces with modern military equipment to complement the training they receive. 

“Government is also committed to enriching the human resource base of the Armed Forces by supporting initiatives that would provide further education for soldiers, sailors and airmen to enhance further their skill in protecting our territorial integrity,” he said. 

To the Governing Council of the Police Service, President Akufo-Addo congratulated the members on the council on their appointment and urged the members to help build a professional police service. 

He urged them to ensure a professional, accountable, responsive, transparent, trustworthy police service that respected the fundamental human rights of individuals.

“I urge you to execute your mandate to the benefit of the Ghanaian people and focus on policies which would promote the wellbeing of personnel of the service and help develop it into the service we all want,” he said

President Akufo-Addo pledged the government’s commitment to provide the service with all the support it required to enable it succeed.
