On Friday, Volta Power Queens of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) donated a variety of reading materials and 90 dual desks with teachers’ tables totalling GH¢ 28,250.00 to two basic schools in the Volta Region.

The beneficiary schools Matse Salvation Primary School in the Ho Municipality received the reading materials, while Mepe Worgbe Basic School took the furniture.

In a short ceremony to hand over the furniture and reading materials at separate meetings to the schools, Ms. Patience Amuzu, President of the group, said they were determined to provide educational materials to deprived communities to ensure that every school going child would have access to quality education.

She said the club which was formed in 1983 had a total national membership of 1,426 with Volta Regional branch having 111 members.

Ms Amuzu advised the children, especially the girl child to always use their leisure periods to read story books, adding that when reading becomes a hobby pupils were able to correct grammatical errors in their works which leads to academic excellence.

She, therefore, advised parents to encourage their children to cultivate the habit of reading.

Torgbe Kwasi Agba III, Dufia of Worgbe Mepe, who received the furniture on behalf of the school, thanked the club for the gesture.

He said a good school must have a conducive environment for effective learning.

Since the establishment of the school in 1961 it had faced a lot of challenges among them were furniture and classrooms.

This support, he said would therefore go a long way to help the children sit and write in comfort.

He admonished the teachers and children to take good care of the furniture.

The Headteacher of Matse Salvation Primary School, Mr. Jude Agboyo, also received the reading materials for his school and expressed gratitude to the donors and asked for more support.
