The Ghana Police Service has said it was investigating 88 individuals who were on board two Metro Mass Transit buses intercepted at Benchema near Asawinso in the Western North Region on Tuesday, December 3.

The Member of Parliament for Juaboso, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, seen in a video shared on social media had alleged that the 88 people had been brought in from Burkina Faso to cause mayhem in the Sefwi area.

He was seen in the video on the bus, which had the suspects seated and running a commentary that suggested that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was behind recruiting the said 88 individuals from Burkina Faso.

In a statement issued by the Police, they revealed that initial investigations indicated the individuals were allegedly recruited by a man identified as Sammy.

They reportedly came from areas in the Greater Accra Region, including Adenta, Oyarifa, and Madina, and were being transported to provide security at polling stations within constituencies in the Western North Region.

The Police said suspects were currently in custody and were assisting with ongoing investigations into the matter.

The Police has assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend Sammy, the alleged organiser of the recruitment, to aid in the investigation.
