NGO organises HSMUN conference

Life-Link Friendship School Ghana, a non-governmental organisation on Saturday held a High School Model United Nations (HSMUN) conference,to provide participants the opportunity to deliberate on issues affecting UN member states.

The conference was on the theme: “Working together for a sustainable and inclusive society towards recovery in post COVID-19 era.”

The participants, who were students from Junior and Senior High Schools across the country,provided ideas on how to deal with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), after researching on how it was affecting the member states.

The students discussed topics, including the impact of COVID-19 on the educational system, teaching and learning about post COVID-19, human trafficking and forced labour in the age of globalisation and military interventions and its impact on world peace.

Speaking at the conference, the Deputy Minister of Information, Mrs Fatimatu Abubakar, urged participants to invest much time and resources in their education in order to enhance their development.

She said misinformation and disinformation were some of the challenges many UN member states were facing in the era of COVID-19.

The Deputy Minister, therefore, called on member states to undertake adequate research before sharing information on various media platform.

Mrs Abubakar encouraged participants to take advantage of the opportunity given them by the NGO to learn and improve their leadership skills.

In an address read on her behalf, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, said the government held the participation of the youth in the decision making of the country in high esteem.

Shesaid that the government would continue to empower the youth to take part in decision-making at all levels of governance.
