The Konor of the Manya Krobo Traditional Area, Nene Sackitey II, has underscored the point that traditional leaders are always open and happy to engage any leader of the country who wants to tap into their wealth of knowledge, skill and wisdom on the progress, growth and development of the country.
“We are always ready to engage with aspiring flag bearers of the various political parties on issues that concern the socioeconomic development of the country and I appeal to politicians and aspiring politicians to avail themselves to listening opportunity the various House of Chiefs offer them concerning progress and growth issues of the country,” he noted.
Nene Sackite, who is the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, pointed out that the traditional authorities were aware elections were fiercely contested and thus it behooved on them to ensure there was absolute peace, unity, harmony and cohesion across the country.
He made the call at a town hall gathering when former President John Mahama paid a courtesy call on the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs as part of his “Thank You” tour in the region.
However, Nene Sackite appealed on behalf of all traditional authorities to all political actors to conduct decent campaigns and avoid what had become known as politics of insults and deceit that had be deviled the politics of the country because the nation had come a long way in its democratic dispensation since inception of the Fourth Republic.
“We have been touting Ghana as beacon of democracy and one of the few oases of peace, unity and stability in the developing continent of Africa and pinnacle of respect that Ghana has gained across the world is as a result of widely held notion Ghanaians are relatively tolerant, united, peaceful and hospitable.
“As politicians you must do everything possible to maintain such laudable acclaim and not take them for granted and reason traditional authorities urge all political leaders to admonish members, supporters and adherents not to take the peace, unity, harmony, cohesion, tranquility and stability prevailing for granted to disrupt what we all have relished over the years.
“Our doors are always open to any aspiring leader serious about the progress, growth and development of the nation to engage traditional authorities who are always ready to assist and support them if they avail themselves,” Nene Sackite said. -3news.com
