Must Read

The Member of Parliament (MP) for La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly, Ms Rita Odoley Sowah, over the weekend organised a New Year party for Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) and children at La in Accra.

The event brought together physically, visually and mentally challenged persons as well as children of all ages under one umbrella to dine, wine and dance to local and foreign tunes as an appreciation to their care and love shown to her since she became the MP for the area.

The PWDs were given drinks, biscuits, sweets, cake and in addition, each was given a gift to be taken home.

In her address, Ms Sowah indicated that the event was organised to show her appreciation for the love and kindness the PWDs showed by voting for her during the 2020 elections.

According to her, the gesture was to show them the love and care she and her team have for the vulnerable in the constituency during and after the yuletide season.

She promised to lobby for more support for PWDs in her constituency to benefit so that their lives would be meaningful in the society.

Ms Sowah urged them to stay calm as she and her team push for several changes to have the PWDs factored in all issues and projects in the constituency.

“I am going to make sure every road, hospital, infrastructure and other projects including topical discussions on development and human resources in the constituency, PWDs are considered so that everyone will benefit,” she said.

The MP urged all PDWs who have not registered for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to quickly contact her office for the necessary procedure to get them registered.

She also urged them to get vaccinated to prevent or secure themselves from getting the virus that could kill them.

The COVID-19 vaccine,  she said, was like yellow fever and other injections we already know and take that prevent us from contracting or being infected with some disease and infections so it was a good thing to get the vaccine.

Ms Juliana Adam’s and Gilbert Asamoah Ayebeng, beneficiaries, thanked the MP for remembering the less privileged and asked for God’s protection and mercies on her life.

They pleaded with her to lobby in parliament for more support for PWDs, especially their share of the common fund to be increased.
