Merging Mites Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation, has handed over a refurbished seven-unit classroom block to Ahwerase Presbyterian Basic School and Kindergarten in the Akuapim South District in the Eastern Region.
The NGO, formed in September is committed to improving the educational experiences of children and their holistic development through renovation of dilapidated school structures and repainting of school structures, provision of learning materials and organising health screening exercises for school children across the eastern region.
Speaking in an interview, the Executive Director of Merging Mites Foundation, DorcasYaa Mensah said the gesture was in response to an appeal made by authorities of the school seeking support to give the structure a facelift.
She said as an organisation that sought to inspire and empower school children by providing them with a healthy and conducive environment through equality, transformation, accountability and teamwork to effect change in their society in future, they had accepted to refurbish the school structure.
She mentioned that they had undertaken similar initiative at Kpong EP Basic Schools, Ahudzo R/C Basic School and donated educational materials to BukunorM/A Basic School, as part of their contribution towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goal Four (SDG4).
For her part, the Head teacher, Mrs Cynthia AntwiAgyei, commended Merging Mites Foundation for accepting to repaint the school after receiving their request.
She believed a good looking infrastructure would serve as a motivation for both teachers and students to strive for academic excellence in the quest to build an educative society.
Lamenting on some other challenges faced by the school, she mentioned the school did not have washrooms and a changing room for the adolescent girls, therefore, the students had been sharing the only existing one with the public.
She, therefore, pleaded with the government and other individual organisations to emulate Merging Mites Foundation by coming to the aid of the school and provide washrooms and changing rooms for the students to promote hygiene among themselves.
