The Kuntenase District Court on Monday remanded into police custody the suspect, who allegedly killed Kwaku Adu Gyamfi, 22, a student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), to avoid paying a debt he owed.

The plea of the 25-year-old suspect, tailor apprentice Emmanuel Boateng, was not taken. He has been provisionally charged with murder.

The court, presided over by Mr Francis Asakiah, remanded him into police custody to appear again on May 9, 2022.

Presenting facts of the case, Kuntenase District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Eric Akwaboah, said  the suspect allegedly lured the student into a bush, near Sewuah, clubbed him to death and made away with his iPhone 11 pro max.

Prosecution said, the suspect allegedly murdered Gyamfi, a second year Biological Science student of the KNUST, to avoid payment of debt he owed him.

DSP Akwaboa said that when the police inspected the body, they found out that the neck was swollen and “blood oozing from the nostrils”.

He said that the stick suspected to have been used to hit the student was also found about twenty meters away from the body.

DSP Akwaboah said when the police arrested Boateng, he confessed having committed the crime because he wanted to avoid paying ¢100. 00 he owed the student.

The prosecution said the suspect told the police he lured the student into the bush, murdered him and took his iPhone 11 Pro Max, which has been retrieved by the police.
