Legon Cities overcome RTU

Must Read

Legon Cities FC put up a dominant performance to beat RTU 3-2 in an exciting 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) week two fixture played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.

Legon Cities had to bounce back from their draw with Hearts of Oak in their opening week encounter last week, to clinch all three points to start the season on a bright note.

Joseph Adjei, Nat Akwah and Jonah Attuquaye were on the score sheet for Legon Cities to seal all maximum points for the home side.

Experienced David Abagna scored a brace for the visitors.

The victory also placed Legon Cities temporarily on top of the league table ahead of yesterday’s round of matches.

The game started with Legon Cities pushing for an early goal to unsettle the visitors.

Their dominance paid off as Joseph Adjei gave the home side the lead midway through the half but was later cancelled by the impressive Abagna to end the half at one all.

Legon Cities came back strongly after the break and found the back of the net in the 56th minute through Akwah’s brilliant strike from a set piece.

Attuquaye then doubled the lead later from the spot as his side appeared to be cruising to victory.

But Abagna pulled a goal back in the latter stages of the game to reduce the deficit.

Any attempt to snatch parity was dealt a big blow with the expulsion of Matthew Abayese in the 87th minute.

Legon Cities would clash with Accra Great Olympics in the next game while RTU square off with WAFA in their next fixture.
