Kwesi Appiah calls for patience with Chris Hughton amid disappointing Black Stars performances.

Former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah says the Black Stars should be allowed more time to develop and build cohesion under the leadership of coach Chris Hughton.

The Black Stars have faced criticism and pressure from the public and media due to their lackluster performance in international friendly matches held in October. These friendlies were part of the team’s preparations for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Unfortunately, the team suffered a 2-0 defeat against the Mexican national team and a more significant 4-0 loss against the United States Men’s National Team.

Despite these disappointing results, Kwesi Appiah believes that the team needs time to come together and establish better cohesion and performance. He suggests that given time, the Black Stars can improve their performance and work on their strengths and weaknesses under Chris Hughton’s leadership.

“Black Stars need a bit of time to gel,” the newly appointed Sudan head coach told Asempa FM.

“I was able to watch the games but most of the time, as a coach, my concentration is not on the results.

“As a coach, you will have to pick positives from the results and that also helps you to build a good team and also helps you in your decision-making in the progression of the team.

“Sometimes when you win, it has its negative effect as well so I will only say let’s give ourselves the time to shape the team,” he added.

Before the AFCON takes place in Ivory Coast next year, Chris Hughton and his team will be contending with Madagascar and Comoros in the initial two matches of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
