Kintampo Waterfall records 6,140 visitors 1st quarter …Rakes GH¢ 48,156

A total of 6,140 revellers have patronised the Kintampo waterfalls in the first quarter of this year, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has disclosed.

The Bono East Regional Director, GTA, Mr Joseph Appiagyei, in an interview with the Ghanaian Times on Tuesday in Techiman, the regional capital, said the figure included 3,209 males and 2,931 females.

MrAppiagyei indicated that patrons of the waterfalls were made up of 547 children, 2,910 students and 2,420 adults (all indigenes), and 263 foreigners saying that local patronage was commendable.

The Regional Director noted that the Authority accrued GH¢ 48,156 within the period under review through entry fees collection and tolls paid by vendors at the premise of the facility.

MrAppiagyei said GTA had built a beautiful canopy walkway on the waterfalls, improved security, fire prevention and sanitation services at the facility to ensure customer satisfaction.

“The Kintampo Municipal Assembly has promised to mount a security camera to ensure daily surveillance at the site. I urge revellers to abide by all rules and regulations governing the waterfalls,” the Regional Director stated.

He added that the Authority and the Forestry Commission had begun a tree planting exercise along water bodies, and other tourists attraction sites in the area, to help preserve the ecological reserve of the facility.

Mr Appiagyei appealed to investors, NGOs and cooperate bodies globally to partner GTA to develop the waterfalls to a first class site. He also appealed to telecommunication network providers to improve network reception at the waterfalls.

“High rated hotels and hostels, restaurant, sports facilities and souvenirs shop among other unique infrastructure must be constructed, to enable tourists stay longer. I wish the road from entrance to the site is tarred to beautify the place,” he solicited.

The Regional Director implored churches, advertising agencies, event organisers, institutions and groups to use the Kintampo waterfalls for their programmes, saying that researchers are welcomed to our site.

He expressed appreciation to the Bono East Regional Minister, Kwasi Adu Gyan and his Chief Director, George Padmore Mensah, the various Municipal and District Assemblies, Nananom, members of staff of GTA and residents for their support.

Mr Appiagyei further thanked the global online communication giant google for advertising the Kintampo waterfalls on its platform adding that “GTA will promote tourist sites in the Bono East region on all social media platforms.”
