“Jazz in worship 2021” held to raise funds for special needs children

A Neuropsychiatrist at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), Dr Dela Fiagbe, has asked parents to look out for any abnormal behaviour in their children and seek medical attention.

He said children had many issues that affected their growth and development, and much attention must be given at their formative years.

Dr Fiagbe said some children suffered “foetal distress” at birth, resulting in abnormal high heart beat which sometimes required surgery to correct.

He was speaking to the Ghanaian Times at “Jazz in worship 2021” held  at Korle-Gonno , a suburb of Accra, to raise funds to support children with special needs.

Dr Fiagbe said his training at the KBTH had exposed him to many health challenges affecting children at Child Health Department, adding that it was not a pleasant experience.

Touched by the challenges of the children with special needs, he had over the years embarked on “Jazz in worship”   with the “Jazzspelody” band to touch the heart of people with the word of God to extend a hand of support to Children with special needs.

He said some children experienced intellectual difficulties and unknowingly “the teacher will rather cane the child” in school for no fault of the child, stressing on the need for teachers to look out for such abnormalities in the children to assist them.

The Neuropsychiatrist urged parents to be vigilant about their childrento prevent them from falling prey to the influence and practices of the Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay, Transgender, Queen, Intersex( LGBTQI+) community.

In one of his Jazz in gospel music “deep skills,” Dr Fiagbe believed that when the patient appeared not to respond to all the treatment, it required additional deep skills to invoke the healing powers of the Lord.

The Jazz in worship session was interspersed with prayers led by Reverend Dr Bismark Opoku Asare for the protection and guidance for children to grow well with thanks and praises to God for how far they had come through the year.

It featured the testimony of Joycelyn Armah, who upon fourth attempt eventually realised her ambition of becoming a lawyer, admonishing people to continue to have faith in the faithful God and “hold on to Him” in whatever they are seeking for.
