The Chairman of Euroget De-Invest and project contractor, Dr Said Deraz, has expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of delivery at the Afari Military Hospital in the Ashanti Region.

Dr Said Deraz further revealed that the company had already completed the work in Konongo District Hospital, and that the commissioning would be done in the middle of this month.

He also disclosed that the 250-bed capacity Regional Hospital in Serwua had been completed, and would be commissioned based upon the finalisation of access road and electricity which were the main hindrance to the project.

This came to light during a site visit to assess the progress of work done so far with a team that comprises, the Country Director of Euroget, Mr Abraham Dwuma Odoom, and the project officer, TiyunibaI moro Mahama.

The Afari Military Hospital is one of the nine hospitals awarded to Euroget, an Egyptian investment company, for construction in the country.

The facility has 17 specialist clinics, pharmacy units, theatres, laboratories, kitchen, laundry, morgue, among others.

It also has medical waste, sewerage, and water treatment plants, a 54-flat staff accommodation, a gas-generating system, a parking lot for more than 700 cars and a helipad.

The hospital has a six-kilometre internal road network and 40-acre landscaping on the 260,000-metre square project area.

When all is set, the Afari Military Hospital would become the second military hospital after the 37 Military Hospital in Accra to complement the KomfoAnokye Teaching Hospital as the chief referral medical facilities in the Ashanti Region and other surrounding regions.

The Administration Manager of Euroget, Mr Baba Abana, in an interview during the working visit to the project site disclosed that the Afari Military Hospital project had suffered the delay because of the relocation problems that it went through.

He hinted that, the Military Hospital project was first sent to the northern part of the country and brought down to the Sofoline in Kumasi, then to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra and finally settling on Afari near Kumasi.

The Afari Military Hospital has a 500-bed capacity in the Atwima Nwabiagye District of the Ashanti Region, and the contractors have given assurance that the hospital would be ready for inauguration by December this year.

The team was taken round by the resident engineer, Mr. Abou Shamaa, and the administrator of the hospital, Captain Agyenim Boateng, who stood in for the Commander of the hospital, Brig. Gen. P. K. Ayibor.

Mr Shamaa revealed that, all was set to deliver one of the best healthcare facilities in the country to Ghanaians.

So far, all of the physical infrastructure, including staff accommodation facilities and medical blocks, have been completed, while the installation of equipment has advanced.

The company had already completed and handed over five of those nine hospitals—the Wa Regional Hospital in the Upper West Region, the Ga East Municipal Hospital at Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region; the Ahafo Ano North Municipal Hospital at Tepa in the Ashanti Region; the Tain District Hospital in the Bono Region; and the Twifo-Atti-Morkwa District Hospital at Twifo Praso in the Central Region.
