I’m focused on my presidential ambition – Boakye Agyarko

Must Read

Boakye Agyarko, a former Minister of Energy, has maintained that he is currently focused on his presidential ambition and will turn down any appointment to serve in the Akufo-Addo-led administration.

“I am working to become the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and to eventually become president of Ghana, hence I will not want any other issues to distract me since I also working at being Ghana’s next president and will commit and dedicate myself fully to it, although many people have advised me against it,” he pointed out.

Mr Agyarko indicated that he had moved on, having served in Akufo-Addo-led administration with all his might, pursuing his own presidential ambition, something a lot of people kicked against from the beginning but would not abandon it to serve in the current government because he was focused on what he had to do for himself and the nation.

“If you serve with all your strength and the person does not appreciate it, you move on, if I cannot give something a hundred per cent, I will not do it, am I not deserving of being the flagbearer of the NPP?” he quizzed.

President Akufo-Addo removed Mr Agyarko from his post as Minister of Energy in 2018 over the Africa and Middle East Resource Investment (AMERI) energy deal scandal, since that incident, the relationship between the two has been rumoured to be frosty however, he insisted he had nothing against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

With President Akufo-Addo completing his second four-year mandate in 2024, some aspirants have decided to contest the NPP’s upcoming presidential primary and apart from Mr Agyarko, Alan Kyerematen, Minister of Trade and Industry,
Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Minister of Food and Agriculture, and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia are also preparing to officially announce their bids to lead the NPP into the next election.

According to Mr Agyarko, the NPP must boldly acknowledge to the citizenry the dire situation of the economy as first step towards addressing challenges and putting the country back on track with economic progress, growth and development.

“The government must consciously psych citizens to brace themselves for tough socioeconomic times, take necessary measures to restore fiscal discipline, prioritise public financial management since the economy is not in good place and put plans in place towards collective sacrifice,” he stressed. -myjoyonline.com
