Must Read

Former CAF Confederation Cup champions, Accra Hearts of Oak will leave Ghana tomorrow for the Malian capital of Bamako for their first leg Confederation’s Cup clash with AS Real de Bamako on Saturday at the Stade de Bamako.

The Phobians will face ASReal Bamako of Mali which edged out AS Douanes of Burkina Faso after a 3-1 penalty shootout win.

They settled for a goalless result in both home and away fixtures with the winner facing the ex-champions from Ghana.

The second leg will come off in Ghana on October 16.

A source close to Hearts told the Times Sports in an interview that the team will leave by air tomorrow, with the delegation led by Mr Vincent Sowah Odotei, a Board Member of the club.

The two-legged fixture will be the first assignment for newly appointed Assistant Coach if the club, David Ocloo.

Ocloo joined the Phobian ranks moments after previous Head Coach, Samuel Boadu and his assistant, Hamza Obeng left the club with a mutual consent.

The victor over the two legs will advance to the play-off stage to face one of the teams that will drop from the CAF elite club tournament, the Champions League, for a place at the group stage of the Confederation Cup competition.

The play-off is scheduled for November 2-9.

The Phobians will seek to redeem themselves after last season’s debacle.

Hearts were eliminated from the same competition at the play-off stage by Algerian side JS Saoura on a 4-2 aggregate in December, 2021.
