The Minister of Roads and Highways,KwesiAmoako-Atta, has assured contractors working on the phase two of the ObetsebiLamptey  Interchange  project of  the government’s commitment to ensure the project is completed on schedule.

According to him, nothing would be allowed to stand in the way of the second phase after the first phase was successfully completed ahead of schedule.

The Minister made these remarks when he was informed by the resident engineer that the relocation of some utilities along the area of construction was slowing their work.

According to MrOwusuSekyereAntwi, even though the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Ghana Water Company Limited, (GWCL) had been informed of the relocation, the contract was yet to be awarded for the relocation of the utilities for the construction of the last four piers.

He said six piers had been completed and the locations of the last four were on the “right of way” and an urgent relocation was needed to begin work on the 389 meter over pass.

He said the project which was started on March 25, 2021 would be completed ahead of the scheduled March 2023 deadline.

MrAntwi indicated that after the concreting of the piers the Awudome road would be dualised, while other community roads would be improved to give the area a phase lift.

He said the project was 14 per cent complete and indicated that all arsenals would be galvanized to meet the government’s expectations.

MrAmoako-Atta who was  not happy with the issue concerning the relocation of the utilities, said he would liaise with the Ministers of Water Resources and Energy to have the matter addressed to avoid any delay on project.

He said the government didnot doubt the competence of the contractor after the “marvelous job under the first phase” as such every support would be given him to succeed.

“The government has a number of interchanges to construct, hence nothing will be left to chance,” MrAmoako added.
