The Chairman of the Ghana Association of Chinese Societies and the Ghana Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Tang Hong, has commended the government for initiating a number of initiatives towards the development of the country.
He indicated that a number Chinese companies had taken advantage of the opportunities under the One-District-One-Factory policy and other initiatives by the current administration to invest in the Ghanaian economy.
“Basically, almost all the companies are big manufacturing company in Ghana,” he said.
Mr Hong was speaking at a public lecture organised by the Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) at Cape Coast on the theme: “How to become a successful entrepreneur”.
The ceremony also witnessed the appointment of Mr Hong and two other Chinese Nationals as visiting tutors at the Institute.
Mr Hong stated that: “Chinese companies have invested a lot of money in different areas of the Ghanaian economy”.
Additionally, he said investors from China had also invested in the agricultural area and commended the government for initiating good policies aimed at boosting investor confidence in Ghana.
He further acknowledged the good relationship between Ghana and China and said a number of students were currently studying in China.
He stated that to be in business one needed to take risks in order to get the needed benefit from it.
Mr Hong explained that a number of Chinese companies had invested in the manufacturing sector and were doing well in terms of production, and creation of employment opportunities for the youth in Ghana.
He urged the students to take their studies seriously and learn the rudiments of business, noting that it was through constant learning that one would be able to grasp.
Mr Hong touted Ghana as a model of democracy in Africa and said freedom was unquestionable.
He admonished the students and the Ghanaian community to study Chinese language due to the opportunities that come with learning the Chinese language.
Mr Hong noted that a good entrepreneur must have patience in executing his or her business since there were frustrations in business, adding “When you are frustrated in your business, just be patient”.
Additionally, he underscored the need for the students to have an attitude of perseverance in order to take advantage of opportunities, saying that the belief of Chinese was to think positively and act towards their passion and turn their situations around.
The Ghana Director of the Confucius Institute at UCC, Prof Ishmael Mensah, in his remarks, noted that the issue of entrepreneurship was of crucial importance to the development of any society.
The Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at UCC, Prof. Ou Yamei in a statement at the ceremony, urged students to develop the passion of becoming entrepreneurs.
