Government workers commended for commitment to serving rural communities

Must Read

GNA – Residents of Domowa in the Wa West District have commended government workers at the community for their sacrifice and dedication to duty.

The teachers and nurses, among other workers, who were posted to the community had to brace all odds including the bad roads, particularly during the rainy season, to serve on daily basis.

Mr Fuseini Dramani, a resident, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said: “During the rainy season, the teachers leave their motorbikes at Salmana, remove their sandals and walk through the floods to come and teach. Some even fell into the mud and had to return home.”

He said the nurses’ situation was not different as they also went through great ordeal to access the community to provide healthcare during the rains.

Mr Ando Aba-ele, another resident, said most of the workers struggled to stay at the community due to lack of electricity and appealed to the District Assembly to hook the community to the national grid to make life easier for the workers.

Mr Nicholas Gyirkaar, the Assembly Member of the Varempere Electoral Area, confirmed the poor roads in the area and said the Domowa-Salmana and the Bongberi-Varempere roads, for instance, needed culverts to make them motorable in the rainy season.

He said several appeals to the Wa West District Assembly to provide the culverts had not yielded results, adding: “There are some valleys on these roads and whenever it rains you cannot pass there”.
