GETFund completes 2,259 projects since 2017 nationwide

The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has since 2017 completed a total of 2,259projects across the country, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the fund, Dr Richard Ampofo Boadu, has disclosed.

The projects, he said, comprised 1,314 legacy projects inherited from previous administrations and 945 initiated and by the current administration.

Dr Boadu disclosed this at a stakeholders’ forum organised by the Fund in Accra yesterday.

The forum, dubbed‘GETFund in perspective. Infrastructure support for education in Ghana’, brought together various players within the entire education spectrum in the country.

It was to provide an update on the operations of the Fund and the utilisation of its resources since 2017.

Dr Boadu said the 2,259 projects included 1,114 at the basic level, 1,002 at the senior high school (SHS), 14 E-blocks, 127 at the tertiary level and two Technical, Vocational, Education, Training (TVET) centres.

He explained that, the 1,314 legacy projects were made up of 645 at the basic level, 528 at the SHS, 14 E-Blocks and 127 TVET centres.

Dr Boadu indicated that apart from dealing with the legacy projects, all outstanding debt from 2013 to 2019 had been cleared.

However, he said due to the difficulties of 2020, the Fund still owed contractors from September of that year till date.

He said a number of initiatives had been instituted since 2017 to improve the efficiency and effective operations of the Fund.

For his part, the Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, said the government would continue to invest in providing the needed infrastructure for educational development.

He said the GETFund remained an important funding agency for the provision of infrastructure   within the education eco-chamber.

He commended the organisers of the forum and urged all the participants to take active interest and contribute towards enhancing operations of the fund.
