A 44-year-old man, who posed as a police inspector has been nabbed by the police in Tuba, Accra.
Bismark Asabre is believed to be a member of a gang of five, reportedly parading themselves as police officers, arresting and taking money from people.
The head of Public Relations of the Accra Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) EffiaTenge, confirmed the arrest to the Ghanaian Times, in Accra, yesterday.
She said on Sunday at about 11:35 am, the police received information from Tuba residents that they have arrested a young man who has been parading himself as a police inspector.
DSP Tenge said the police went and arrested the suspect, and upon interrogation,he told the police that he was part of gang, that posed as police and army officers and arrested people and took money from them.
The Police PRO stated that a search conducted at his house, revealed pictures of the suspect dressed in police camouflage, as a sergeant, but the police uniform could not be found.
She also said various cell phones and pen drives, belonging to victims were retrieved, adding that the suspect has been detained and efforts were underway to arrest other accomplices.
