The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has inaugurated an ultra-modern office at Akatsi, in the Akatsi South District of the Volta Region, as part of efforts to bring service centres closer to the people.

Mr Fredrick ObengAdom, Deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation, who inaugurated the office, said that the DVLA sought to ensure best practices in driver licensing and vehicle registration.

That he said, would promote road safety and sustainable environment while pursuing integrity, excellent professionalism and reliability in service delivery.

According to MrAdom, the DVLA has acquired state-of-the-art equipment to facilitate the printing of driver’s licences and other vehicular documents. This he said has reduced the ‘turnaround’ time for service delivery.

MrAdom noted that through Public-Private Partnerships Policy, the DVLA has established vehicle testing operational centres across the country thereby creating employment.

He said the authority has also introduced a new driver licensing system and new vehicle registration system to reduce fraud.

MrAdomsaid “it is worth noting that the negative perception about DVLA is rapidly changing in a positive direction. Today, the reportage is not about extortion and delays, but more of good practices.”

He, however, noted that “whilst acknowledging the DVLA for the achievements, it is sad to note that fatalities on our roads continue to rise mainly as a result of indiscipline.”

MrKwesiAgyemanBusia, Chief Executive of DVLA, said the Authority would continue to work closely with the Assemblies to bring services closer to public.

He advised DVLA staff to be more receptive to their clients, eschew laziness, lateness to work and other vices, which could negatively affect the image of the Authority.

Mr Samuel Lodonu, Volta Regional Manager of DVLA, has become a household name because of its reforms.

He appealed to DVLA to establish more offices in the Oti Region to facilitate its operations.

The Paramount Chief of Avenor Traditional Area, TorgbeDorgloAnumah V, said Akatsi is a strategic location on the ECOWAS highway, and asked DVLA to make services available at all time to clients.
