Driver charged over death of woman: Case adjoured to Aug 19

The Madina Magistrates Court on Tuesday adjourned to August 19, the case in which a 48-year-old driver, Noah Boateng, has been charged with careless and inconsiderate driving, leading to the death of a woman at Taifa Burkina, in Accra.

The court, presided over by Madam Susannah Nyarko announced the adjournment when the case was called, to enable the police to prepare the coroner’s report and forward the docket to the Attorney General’s (AG’s) Department for Advice.

Faustina Acheampong, a mother of one, was knocked down by Hyundai mini delivery van a few seconds after she walked passed it.

Boateng was also charged with second count of negligently causing harm, but the court presided over by Susannah Nyarko did not take his plea.

He was admitted to a GH¢ 20,000.00 bail with three sureties, and as part of the bail condition, they are to deposit their National Identification Cards with the registrar of the court.

The case of the prosecution was that,  on August 6, 2021, Boateng, who was in charge of the Hyundai mini delivery  van with registration GS 4768-18, parked the vehicle to collect mixed flour from a shop, but left the car in a neutral gear position.

 According to the prosecution, Faustina was knocked down and was rushed to the Atomic Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was later conveyed to the Police Hospital mortuary in Accra for preservation and autopsy.
