The Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, has promised to build an ultra-modern ICT centre for the students of the Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) in Tamale in the Northern Region.
The project, estimated to cost $400,000 is part of the minister’s commitment to promote ICT knowledge in his alma mater.
Dr Awal announced this when he joined hundreds to celebrate the school’s 60th anniversary at the weekend in Tamale.
He explained that the provision of the ICT centre would be supported by the Helping Africa Foundation of the United States of America.
The minister stressed that the facility would not only help equip students of the school with the requisite knowledge and skills on ICT, but would also assist and prepare them for the job market.
He indicated that the works on the ICT centre would commence early next year.
Dr Awal, who represented the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, as the Special Guest of Honour, also announced a scholarship package for the overall best student of the school.
“In addition to the provision of the ICT Centre, I will provide a comprehensive scholarship package to the overall best student of the school over the next 10 years,” he said.
Dr Awal, therefore, advised the students to take their studies seriously and emulate the discipline and hard work that former students of the school have exhibited.
The Headmistress of GHANASCO, Hajia Amina Musah, commended the government for the numerous projects in the school.
She mentioned that the school in recent times had enjoyed a lot of support from the government.
The headmistress also commended old students, particularly Dr Awal for his personal commitment towards the development of the school

The headmistress said the rehabilitation of the schools water system, rehabilitation of the schools administration block, construction of the schools gate are some of the contributions of Dr Awal to the school.
