Contractor returns to abandoned Danfa-Ayi Mensah road project

Must Read

The contractor, who abandoned the Danfa-Ayi Mensah road project, citing heavy rainfall in the area, last Thursday, returned to site to make the road motorable for commuters.

The project was suspended after the grader got stuck in the mud on the shoulders of the road.

The contractor, MessrsKwame Boadi, was expected to start work by November 15, but he must first repair bad portions of the road before actual work commences.

When the Ghanaian Times visited the community on Saturday, the contractor had graded poor portions of the Koeman, Danfa, Adoteyman and Ayensu Estate sections of the road was working on the Otinibi side of the stretch.

The work was supervised by officials of the Municipal National Disaster Management Organisation [NADMO] and Constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party, led by Mr. George EbowBossman.

The area was always at the receiving end of excess rainwater from the Akwapim Mountains.

The delay of the project had resulted in the once peaceful Ayi-Mensah-Koeman-Danfa-Otinibiand Amrahia communities featuring in the news for wrong reasons, following a violent demonstration on Tuesday, October 26.

It would be recalled that the Ghanaian Times, reported in its Tuesday, October 26, 2021, issue, that residents of five communities in the La Nkwantanang–Madina Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, who demonstrated over the deplorable nature of roads in the community, clashed with armed police personnel.

The protesters blocked the road linking the affected communities between- Mensah and  Amrahia, burnt lorry tyres and firewood thus preventing commuters from using the road.

The demonstration dubbed “Fix Our Roads” was organised by the Member of Parliament (MP),Mr Francis-Xavier Sosu, and the residents/demonstrators were mobilised from Adokweiman, Adoteiman, Otinibi, Danfa and Ayi Mensah.

A police source said the conveners had obtained permit and had police permit and had police protection, but failed to adhere to guidelines set by security personnel during their protest.

Police reinforcement was deployed to the area, but the aggrieved demonstrators attempted to stop the police from removing the blockage to allow for free movement of vehicles and persons.

According to eyewitnesses, the police removed the blockages several times but the demonstrators kept on replacing them thus leaving the police with no option than to arrest four of the organisers.
