Coalition of Muslim and Christian Clergy urges EC to ensure transparent and fair elections

Kumasi Oct. 02 GNA – A coalition of Muslim and Christian clergymen on Monday October 01, 2024, embarked on a peaceful procession in some principal streets of Kumasi, to present a petition to the Electoral Commission (EC).
Members of the coalition, in the petition are urging EC to do whatever is possible to uphold integrity and impartiality throughout the processes to the December elections.


The coalition underscored the importance of transparency in the EC’s operations to preserve the integrity of the electoral process and said, open and accountable electoral framework was needed to ensure fair and peaceful elections.


Reverend Dr Enoch Kwabena Nketiah, Convener of the Coalition, speaking to the media during the procession, indicated that, religious leaders would persist in offering their support through prayers, for the peaceful conduct of the elections, adding that, the leaders would also engage political party leaders to foster peace and harmony throughout the process.


Sheikh Abdul Mumin Haroun, Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, urged citizens to abide by the rules and regulations guiding the conduct of the elections and work to ensure that they did not offend the laws.


Mr. Francis Osei Nsiah, Ashanti Regional Director of the EC, who received the petition, reiterated the commitment of the Commission to conduct, transparent, free and fair elections in December.
