Assembly members admonished to eschew partisanship

Must Read

Assembly members have been admonished to eschew partisanship to accelerate development of communities.

They have also been cautioned that partisanship retarded progress, growth and development of communities since they were elected to help develop electoral areas.

Mr Emmanuel Gado, made the admonition after he was re-elected for the second term as the Presiding Member for the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly.

Out of the 42 Assembly members, which comprised elected and government appointees, 39 voted for him, representing 86.66 per cent while three voted against him which coincided with the confirmation of Benjamin Kessie, the Municipal Chief Executive, where he garnered 100 per cent.

Mr Gado, who doubles as the Assembly member for Cyanide Electoral Area, said almost two years ago the assembly members voted for him to preside over matters of the assembly.

“The assembly has been bedeviled with problems and challenges over the years but with commitment, determination and dedication we have made growth and progress, I recount some time back that anytime we heard from the media it was about castigations and accusations, thank God we realised Tarkwa-Nsuaem must move forward and made swift turn and advised ourselves.

“As assembly members, we are elected to help develop our electoral areas, but without piece, unity and harmony it will not be possible to achieve any success so I appeal to all of us to work together and sustain the prevailing conducive atmosphere in the assembly and the communities,” Mr Gado stressed.

He expressed appreciation to his colleagues for giving him another opportunity to serve them and promised to work closely with them and other stakeholders to help develop Tarkwa-Nsuaem.

Mr Kessie congratulated the Presiding Member for the overwhelming victory and assured of the assembly’s support and assistance towards the progress, growth and development and urged Mr Gado to introduce measures that would help in the development of every community within the municipality.

John Davis, the Western Regional Dean of Presiding Members, commended the assembly members for a peaceful election and charged them to support and assist Mr Kessie and always remember they represented the masses and would one day be accountable for their stewardship. -GNA
