The St. Augustine Catholic Church in Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region, on Sunday celebrated its 60th anniversary with a total of 120 parishioners receiving the sacrament of confirmation.

In attendance were the Most Rev. Charles Campbell from the Diocese of Bo in Sierra Leone, Most Rev. Gabriel Mendy from the Diocese of Banjul, The Gambia; and the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Reverend John Bonaventure Kwofie.

Most Reverend Kwofie called on Christians to do their best, “since Christianity has no place for mediocrity. Christianity is a matter of doing your best”.

He expressed worry that some members left the church after receiving sacraments, saying, “confirmed members promised to hold on to their faith and make the best out of the gifts of the Holy Spirits which they had received.”

Most Rev Kwofie said “The gift of the Holy Spirit is wisdom, understanding, knowledge, counsel, fortitude, piety and fear of the Lord.”

The ceremony brought together pioneers of the church and other dignitaries and loved ones.
