Deputy Ranking Member on the Education Committee in Parliament, Dr. Clement Apaak, has added his voice to calls for the government to settle the GH¢118 million debt it owes the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), cautioning that such delays have dire consequences.
The outstanding arrears have led to the suspension of the release of the 2024 WASSCE results.
WAEC, in a press statement, called on the government to expedite payment to undertake repair works on broken equipment needed for scanning objective cards to subsequently facilitate the release of the results.
Dr. Apaak, in an interview with Citi News, described the government’s delay as condemnable.
“The results of our wards who wrote WASSCE earlier this year are being withheld in abeyance because the government is failing to meet its commitment to WAEC.
“It is condemnable. So we call on the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-NPP government to do the needful by paying WAEC all outstanding indebtedness.
“Failing to do so, as we are witnessing, has dire implications for the future of the students and the academic calendar of our tertiary institutions.”
