The 1993 Year Group of the Achimota School, last Saturday, donated assorted food items to the Porter’s Village Children’s Home, an Orphanage at Dodowa, in the Shai Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region.
It formed part of activities to mark the 29th anniversary celebration of the group, since completing Achimota School.
Items presented, included six cartons of Kalypo, Milo, Nido, canned fish and tomatoes paste, toiletries, detergents, clothing, footwear, school bags, cooking oil, gari, beans, rice and sugar.
The inmates of the orphanage were also feted with assorted non-alcoholic drinks, pastries and cooked food.
The president of the group, Mr Alfred Quaynor, said the donation was to give back to society after 29 years of completing school.
He indicated that the alumni annually select a vulnerable group, and help members “out of their predicament.”
Mr Quaynor said that the group visited the orphanage and spent the day with the inmates, to enable them to feel like part of society.
He said the group would liaise with the management of Porter’s Village Children’s Home, to sustain support for the inmates.
Mr Quaynor urged individuals and corporate institutions to assist the vulnerable in society.
The Director of the Home, Mrs Sophia Myers, on behalf of the founder, Mrs Jane Irene Adu, commended the group for the gesture and prayed for God “to replenish their wealth.”
“We really appreciate what you have done for us today. We are praying that God would guide and protect your activities so as to put the smiles on the faces of our vulnerable ones, who always feel dejected,” she added.
The Social worker of the Home, Ms Emefa Gai, who presented certificates of recognition to the group, appealed to spirited individuals to support the home with cash, to enable it pay the salaries of staff, and the upkeep of inmates some of whom are in tertiary institutions and senior high schools.
