The board is chaired by Nee OdoiTetteyfio, with Mr OseiAssibeyAntwi , Acting Director of the GNSS, NaaOdofoleyNortey, Dr Kingsley Nyarko, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Patrick AduseiSarpong,  Dr Dominic KwesiEduah and Abdul-Aziz AyabaMusah as members.

Inaugurating the board, the Minister of Education, Dr Yaw OseiAdutwum, saidit was important that the talents and experiences of the members are used to the benefit of the country.

He said the board would have to build upon the rich legacy of the scheme and begin to lift it up, stressing that; “It is a different time and a different era. We have graduate unemployment, so as national service, you need to look beyond creating farms.”

DrAdutwum said the scheme should begin to look at going into construction, as the Ministry decides to provide accommodation for teachers, and then it would partner with it to achieve that.

He noted that the service had a pool of talented young men and women who had the capacity to deploy their skills in Information Technology Communication (ICT) to develop applications that have far reaching implications on the country’s economy.

“Who knows that the Ghana National Service Scheme (GNSS) may be the one to do the next whatsapp, and can you believe that if whatsapp was made by a Ghanaian, it would contribute to 70percent of Ghana’s budget. So, you have an incredible opportunity to tap into the skills and mindset of these young men and women, who are beaming with talent,” he emphasised.

The Minister therefore urged the scheme to use the youth for the benefit of the country by enrolling them into IT programmes to invent new things.

In addition, he said the scheme should venture into the One-District One-factory programme to help create and establish factories that would be owned by the scheme.

Thishe said would help deal with the issues of graduate unemployment in the country.

On his part, the Chairman of the board, Nee Tetteyfio, expressed his gratitude to President Nana AddoDankwaAkufo-Addo, for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to work with his members to further enhance the image of the service.
