Senya Beraku Diaspora inaugurated

Must Read

The Senya Beraku Diaspora (SBD), a non-governmental organisation, was inaugurated on Saturday at Senya Beraku in the Awutu Senya District in the Central Region.

Established in March 2020 with global chapters in the United States and United Kingdom, the SBD seeks to contribute effectively and holistically to the development of Senya Beraku, through the collective efforts of its citizens and partners, both home and abroad.

The Diaspora has undertaken projects in the community, including construction of schools, public toilets, provision of hospitals beds, and supporting the fishing community with other social amenities.

The inauguration was also to raise funds towards the construction of an ultra-modern 100-bed capacity community hospital.

Addressing the media after the inaugural ceremony at Senya Beraku, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Diaspora, Mr Kenneth Brown Esibu, said as part of the Diaspora to address the health needs in Senya Beraku, an ultra-modern hospital would soon be constructed for the community.

“The health concerns of the people remain paramount to the Diaspora, especially at the time when the only health facility in the community was in a deplorable state, hence access to good healthcare has been a major worry for the people,” Mr Esibu said.

He said residents of Senya Beraku had to travel hours to neighbouring towns in the region to be able to access good healthcare.

Mr Ebisu explained that the project would take five years to complete and equip with modernised and technology-based out-patient services, well-stocked pharmacy, functional laboratory, scanning and X-ray centres for image.

The facility would also have labour and delivery ward, emergency accident centre, two state-of-the-art surgical theatres, a mortuary, staff apartment, play ground for kids and a restaurant.

He used the opportunity to call on all citizens and non-citizens of Senya Beraku, stakeholders and the government to come on board to contribute to the development of Senya Beraku.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Diaspora, Mr Sam Okine, explained that the ultra-modern hospital was estimated at $24 million dollars which was equivalent to GH¢150,788,678 , adding that a 50-acre land had been secured through the Senya Traditional Council for the project to be completed in 2026.

Mr Okine disclosed that the Diaspora had initiated a contributing fund of which every member would contribute their quota and also called on individuals, institutions and natives of Senya to support the cause.

He said the Diaspora would in the coming days cut a sod for the commencement of the project and would continue to provide support for the natives of Senya Beraku.

He called for unity and togetherness, pleading that the people should bury their differences to ensure progress in the community.
