A total of 447,698 qualified Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates have been automatically placed in senior high schools (SHSs) and technical institutes (TIs) of their choices under the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
The figure forms 80.93 per cent of the overall number that sat the examination this year.
However, a statement from the Ministry of Education said 104,918 qualified candidates could not be matched to any of their choices, with 73,390 of those who could not be matched with any of their choices representing 13.28 per cent of qualified candidates placed in schools similar to those they selected.
“Such students are at liberty to accept or reject the offer. Once a student rejects the recommended school, he/she can select a school of their choice from the self-placement platform,” the statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education, Kwasi Kwarteng, said.
It said out of the 563,339 results received from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), 553,155 candidates qualified to be placed into relevant schools this year.
Self-placement
The statement said the total number of students placed in schools was 521,088, representing 94.20 per cent of qualified candidates.
“The students who were not placed must visit the self-placement platform to select a school of their choice,” it said, adding that schools selected on the self-placement portal could be changed as many times as the candidate wished until they enrolled in a school.
To access the placement platform, students are to log on to the either www.cssps.gov.gh or www.cssps.org and, enter the 10-digit index number of the candidate, and add “24” as the year of completion.
The completed digits would be in a form such as this: “123456789024”.
When it is submitted, the placement would pop up.
“Proceed to do self-placement if not placed. Print your enrolment form, placement slip and prospectus.
“You may visit the school for registration. Alternatively, you may register online via www.admissions.cssps.gov.gh,” the statement said.
It said accessing the placement was free, with no pin codes required.
The statement explained that the placement system was merit-based, and cautioned parents and guardians not to pay money to people who might approach them for placement into schools.
Reporting date
The statement said heads of all institutions were to begin registration and orientation on October 30, 2024, and then commence academic work by November 7, 2024.
“The public is hereby informed that in addition to the National Solution Centre at the GNAT Hall, Adabraka, Accra, and all the 16 regional solution centres, they can call our helpline on 0308258001 for all concerns,” it said.
