Togbega Gabasu II install Paramount Chief of Gbi Traditional Area

Must Read

Togbega Gabusu VII has been outdoored as the Paramount Chief of Gbi Traditional Area on Saturday, at a grand coronation in the Volta Region.

He swore the oath of allegiance witnessed by a large crowd including Members of Parliament, political parties, traditional rulers and religious leaders.

He was installed as the 8th Paramount Chief of the Gbi Traditional Area after his uncle, Togbega Gabusu VI, who joined his ancestors after 29 years of reign.

Known in private life as Mr Seth Agbesinyale, he worked with Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation as a Senior Investment Officer.

Addressing the gathering after swearing his oath to the kingmakers, Togbega Gabusu VII thanked the kingmakers for selecting him to be their leader, a position he said needs the support of all.

He assured them that he would not lord his position over his subjects, but rather serve them to bring development to the area.

According to him, “in our modern times, kingship has departed from wars, conquest and antagonism, and towards development and networking.”

He, therefore, entreated all to hold hands together in the development as well as the forward march of Gbi Traditional Area.

He also noted that we need to join hands as elders to make discipline a part of our young ones so that the values of respect, hard work, honesty and dedication could be ingrained and seen in them and uphold the culture and the values of our tradition

Togbega further said his Traditional Council would liaise with the Hohoe Municipal Assembly to provide employment opportunities for our youth as in government programmes such as the Youth Start Policy programme.

The Member of Parliament for Hohoe, Peter Amewu, assured him of his unflinching support so as to address some of the developmental gaps in the area.

He noted that the government was aware about the economic challenges of the country, and doing everything possible to address them to make life better for the people.

Togbe Worde IV, the Divisional Chief of Gbi Kpeme and the Acting President of Gbi Traditional Council on behalf of the elders assured him of their support all the time.

He noted with pride to be part of “this momentous celebration which marks the great strides you have made to bring honour to we your subjects.”
