GFA, Zeepay sign one-year partnership

Must Read

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kurt Edwin Simon Okraku, has revealed that the Black Stars’ participation at the upcoming Qatar World Cup is to, among other things, re-write the wrongs of Ghana’s participation at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

“We are looking forward to performing extremely well at the upcoming Mundial in Qatar as the last outing for Ghana was not too exciting.

“If you recall what happened at our lasting showing at this prestigious tournament in Brazil; it is a story we want to rewrite in totality and the attitude of the Government led by the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and everybody in the football ecosystem, clearly shows that Ghana is ready to rewrite the wrongs of Brazil.”

These were remarks made by Mr Okraku at the unveiling of a ‘wholly-owned’ Ghanaian company Zeepay as the official Fin-tech partner of the Association for the next one year, worth GH¢500,000.

Mr Okraku said the Stars have a very competitive team, adding that the country is expectant as much as himself, and knows with this cushioning Zeepay has brought on board, “Ghana would go to the Mundial to perform very well while doing things the right way, this time.”

He expressed excitement at Zeepay’s step of faith in the Football Association and hopes the relationship which is for an initial one-year period, will metamorphosise into a marriage that would last forever.

Managing Director of Zeepay, Mr Andrew Takyi-Appiah, said he was overly expectant of the Black Stars showing at the Qatar World Cup, noting that he has the self belief that this would be a good World Cup for the nation as compared to previous ones.

According to him, at Zeepay, sports is the flagship from a sponsorship perspective – believing that football is one of the major ways to get to their consumers and subscribers.

“That’s why we are very delighted at partnering the GFA and the Black Stars to the World Cup.

“I like the fact that our football and Black Stars have become very Ghanaian and I admire the fact that we have a Ghanaian coach leading us to the Qatar World Cup. So, we are happy to support this course as Qatar is one of our biggest markets. As a business, we move a lot of traffic from Qatar into Africa and so for us, we are going back home to meet our people there and continue to support them,” he further added.
