Ghana’s gorgeous traditional apparels were put on a spectacular display at the just ended 59th International Association of Women Police (IAWP) conference at Niagara Falls, Ontario in Canada.

At the cultural day held as part of the five-day event, delegates from Ghana drawn from the Ghana Police Service with others from the Ghana Immigration, stood out in colourful  ‘slit and kaba’ styles made from Kente and other fabrics.

Others draped themselves in Kente with beads and other ornaments to match, distinguishing themselves at the event that brought together hundreds of police women from over 46 countries.

The conference was organized and hosted by the Ontario Women in Law Enforcement (OWLE), the Niagara Regional Police and Service and Hamilton Police on the theme “Connect, Empower, Lead.”

It was an exciting scene at conference as delegates were seen exchanged gifts such as national flags, souvenirs from other countries during the cultural display.

Some of the delegates who spoke to this Ghanaian Times reporter said it was crucial to have displayed one’s culture to show one’s identity and way of life.

According to them, citizens must be proud of their cultural heritage since it would enable them to protect and preserve their national asset.

They said the day was crucial because it brings about unity and promotion of national cohesion.
