Nigerian fined GH₵600 for threatening student with a cutlass.

The Circuit Court at Ashaiman, has sentenced Joel Efakawa, a Nigerian, to a fine of GH₵600.00 or in default 12 months imprisonment with hard labour for threatening a student with a cutlass. 

The court presided by Mr. Richard Delali Anku convicted accused after his own plea of guilty.

Chief Inspector Samuel Aperweh said the complainant, Hamidu Mohammed, a 28-year-old, student of Ghana Institute of Journalism, Accra, stays at Katamanso in the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality, whilst the convict, 26, also known as Delight, is a labourer and squatter in an uncompleted building.

According to prosecution, the illegal occupancy of the convict in the uncompleted building was brought to the notice of the caretaker of the facility, Famous Amedifa.

Chief Insp Aperweh said the caretaker asked the convict to leave the place, but he failed to adhere to the directive.

Prosecution told the court that on April 20, 2022, the convict went to the complainant’s compound brandishing a cutlass and asked the complainant to opened the gate to the house.

Chief Insp Aperweh said Mohammed sought assistance from the neighbour, who came and disarmed convict and handed him over to the police at Katamansu. -GNA
