Mr Francis Ebo Mensah has been re-elected as the Presiding Member (PM) of the KorleyKlotey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA) in the Greater Accra Region.

The election, which in its initial stage became tough as the 17 assembly members could not give the nominee the two-thirds majority vote requirement, had to go for recess and come back to re-vote.

At the end of the second round all the 17 assembly members, which comprised elected and government appointees, voted “Yes” in favour of Mr Mensah, representing 100 per cent of the total votes cast.

The exercise was conducted by the Municipal Electoral Officer of the Electoral Commission (EC),Ms Linda Abban.

She lauded the assembly members for a peaceful and successful election after the hectic second time voting.

The Municipal Chief Executive of KorleyKlotey, Mr Samuel NiiAdjeiTawiah, congratulated the PM for the overwhelming victory and said the assembly was solidly behind him.

He asked the assembly members to cooperate with the PM for the speedy development of the municipality.

“This is a man of immense experience in assembly works. And I think he’s going to work because he understands the work of assembly member and Presiding Member. So going forward is our prayer that other assembly members will learn from him and cooperate with him to speed up the work of the assembly,” he added.

Mr Tawiah also urged the PM to introduce measures to help in the development of every community within the Municipality.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Henry Quartey, commended the assembly members for their cooperation and expressed happiness for the election of the PM, saying “it will facilitate the work of the Assembly to bring progress for the area.”

He also commended the staff of the assembly for their continuous support in the development of the municipality.

“I must commend you for the good work done in making the ‘Let’s make Accra work again’ campaign achieve its target,” he said.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Mensah expressed appreciation to his colleagues for giving him another opportunity to serve them and promised to work closely with them and other stakeholders to help develop the assembly.

“Being in the assembly for over 20 years, I think I have what it takes, I have the experience and exposure to also help my people to guide them to realise what we want as a municipal,” he added.
