Ghana’s female beach volleyball team qualify for 2022 C’wealth Games

Ghana’s female beach volleyball team has gained qualification for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom (UK) after excelling in African qualifiers held at the Laboma beach in La, Accra.

The Ghanaians beat Mauritius 2-1 in the finals of the competition that ended on Monday.

The event attracted countries such as Zambia, Mozambique, Mauritius, South Africa, Rwanda, Seychelles, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Nigeria and his nation Ghana.

On their way to the finals, the Ghanaian ladies opened their account with a 2-1 victory over Kenya before booking the finals date with Mauritius.

Before that, they had recorded impressive feats over Gambia, Nigeria and South Africa as they stamped their authority in the championship.

Ghana’s male team also put up an impressive but a semifinal defeat to Gambia only meant they exit the competition with bronze medals.

They accounted Rwanda, Nigeria and Zambia in tough encounters before reaching the bowing out with the loss to Gambia.

Meanwhile, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and a member of the Commonwealth Games Ghana (CGG), Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah has congratulatedboth sets of players for the impressive performances.

“Ghana is indeed proud of you. You have done extremely well to get to this level. I want to urge the male team not to give upbutrather put in more effort and energy to reach the top. I believe they can do it.”

He appealed for support from the corporate sector as the team prepares adequately for the Commonwealth Games, which will attract several nations from the Commonwealth.
