‘Bury differences during internal elections to foster unity’

The newly elected coordinator of Gomoa Ekroful Electoral Area, Abban Otoo, has appealed to members and supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) elected polling station executives and electoral area coordinators to bury their political differences to foster a united front to help break the eight-year political party cycle in the 2024 elections.

He explained that the party needed peace, unity, harmony and stability before and after the 2024 elections to assist and support it to continue the prosperous economic and prudent financial management for the country.

“The internal wrangling and pull-him-down attitude on the part of some members, supporters and sympathisers of the party will not help the government to achieve its goals because the battle ahead of the party in 2024 is not an easy task, as grassroots executives, it needs arduous work, togetherness, and selflessness to win the elections.

“The NPP is on the threshold of breaking the eight years mandate Ghanaians gave to the party in the 2020 elections and it is the responsibility of polling station executives and electoral area coordinators to work as a team to ensure landslide win over opposition parties,” Mr Otoo cautioned.

According to him, the current economic hardships used by the opposition to confuse the citizenry was not mismanagement of the economy by the government but global issue due to the novel Covid-19 pandemic that struck the world including Ghana.

Mr Otoo touted the NPP government’s achievement during its first term looking at the economic indicators, but the problem and challenge started when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out and melted down world economic giants including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and others.

He implored citizens to bang their hopes on the government because effective, efficient and prudent measures were in place to cushion the economy to help ease their hardships and tasked the elected executives to embark on aggressive house to house education and sensitisation to explain the rationale behind current hardships including the astronomical petroleum price hike currently facing the country and the world.

“We will do the greatest disservice to the party and the government if we fail to explain current situations to Ghanaians to understand issues and not to sit down unconcerned to allow the opposition to throw dust into the eyes of people,” Mr Otoo warned and asked other contestants who lost the elections to brace themselves for the next race and work with the elected officers.

“This will enable the party to realise its objectives since the National Democratic Congress is not the alternative government that can help alleviate suffering of the citizenry,” Mr Otoo said. -GNA
