Disregard for party laws disturbing – Boakye Agyarko

Must Read

Boakye Agyarko, a former Minister of Energy, has called for an end to disregard for laws, rules and regulations in the New Patriotic Party (NPP)is hypocritical and disturbing.

“The growing culture of hypocrisy and disregard for laws, rules, regulations and the inertia of the leadership of the party must stop and take actions inuring to the disadvantage of the party,” he cautioned.

Mr Agyarko said it had become necessary than ever for the National Executive Committee (NEC) and theNational Council of the NPP to stand firm against indifference, incidents and behaviours that could stall the progress, growth and development of the party.

He asked the leadership of the party to show more concern about members and supporters of the party breaking the laws, rules and regulations and not to seem unconcerned since it could affect the fortunes of the party in the 2024 elections.

According to Mr Agyarko, the NPP NEC must pull the brakes and recognise what was going on within the party would not be helpful to break the eight-year political party cycle since wisdom was not the preserve of a few but “if we all discuss the situations from the bottom up approach, we can bring change to make the party attractive”.

He observed that the party, after losing several parliamentary seats and decreasing its votes in the 2020 general election, setup a fact-finding committee headed by the former Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Maafo and urged the leadership of the party to re-visit the report and implement the recommendations of the committee.

“The committee went round, what are some of the lessons and advise we got from there to turn issues around in our party?” Mr Agyarko quizzed and expressed his intention to contest the party’s flag bearership

The NPP ahead of the 2024 elections and in line with the party’s constitution, has commenced internal elections to elect executives from the polling station and electoral area to the national level however, processes which has commenced at the polling station and electoral area level has been fraught with disturbances, allegations and attempts by some constituency executives and sitting Members of Parliament (MPs) to manipulate the compilation of a voter register in their favour. –ghanaweb.com
