The police in Kwabenya shot dead a suspect at Kwabenya Hills Valley Police Station, for stabbing the Station Officer in the head in Accra, last Friday.
The deceased, identified as Hakimi, was said to have earlier attacked three victims and threatened to kill them.
The Director-General of the Police Public Affairs, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwesi Ofori disclosed in a press statement, issued and sighted by the Ghanaian Times, in Accra, yesterday.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that the victims out of fear, rushed to the police station to seek refuge, but the suspect pursued the victims to the Police Station with a knife.
ACP Ofori stated that at the police station, the suspect attacked the Station Officer and the investigator with a knife and stabbed them multiple times in the head for attempting to protect the victims from the violent attack.
He said sensing that the lives of the Station Officer, the investigator and the victims were in danger, and the police shot and killed the suspect.
The Director-General said the injured police officers were currently responding to treatment at the Poliice Hospital.
He said the body of the deceased had also been sent to the same hospital mortuary.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare and some members of the Police Management Board have visited officers of the Kwabenya Hills Valley Police Station, to encourage the personnel.
The Police Administration warned people who attack police station, stating that they should be prepared to face the full wrath of the law.
