Ghana’s only athlete for the upcoming winter Olympic Games, Carlos Maeder, will be accompanied by eight other officials for the winter games.
The athlete who is an alpine skier, would represent the country and compete in the men’s giant slalom event.
He and his coach, Marc Gehrig, were expected to travel from Switzerland on Tuesday and arrive in Beijing yesterday to participate in the Games.
They will be met by a seven-member delegation from Ghana who would travel from Accra for the winter quadrennial games.
The delegation would be led by Mr. Evans Opoku Bobie, Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr. Mohammed Sahnoon, Secretary General of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) who will also double as the Chef de Mission for the Games after the resignation of Dr Bella Bello Bitugu.
Mr. Seth Panwum, Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority (NSA) will also travel to Beijing together with Adam Hafiz, Chief Director at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Miss Farida Iddirs, a Proxy CDM, Mr. Abdul Aziz Issah from the Ghana Rugby and Football Union (GRFU) as well as Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee.
The Games will open tomorrow and Carlos expected to lead Team Ghana as the flag bearer. –GNA
