4 security operatives reportedly steal vehicles belonging to EC boss’s husband

Four national security operatives have been remanded into police custody by an Accra Circuit Court, for allegedly stealing vehicles belonging to Dr Charles Mensah, husband of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs Jane Mensa.

The accused, Alhaji Ahmed Bandoh, Albert Paa Kwesi Okyere, Kwasi Acheampong, George Antwi and one Randy, now at large, allegedly destroyed the metallic gate, entered the backyard of the residence of the complainant last Tuesday with two towing vehicles with registration numbers, GX3976-20 and GW557V to commit the crime.

The pleas of the accused have not been taken by the court but they have been charged with unlawful entry, stealing, causing unlawful damage and conspiracy to commit crime.

The court presided over by Evelyn Asamoah adjourned the case to August 11.

Chief Inspector Emmanuel Haligah, holding brief for Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Sylvester Asare, told the court that the accused stole a Toyota Land Cruiser and a Nissan Patrol, loaded them unto the towing trucks, and exited the compound.

Prosecution said accused were apprehended by some military men and handed over to the police, and retrieved the vehicles, but drivers of the towing vehicles escaped.
